Research Subject: Eggs
It should be noted that this document isn't the final version, and I'll update with more pictures when I get the time.
2 Enemies spawn eggs; Spiders and Jellyfish.
They spawn a lot more eggs if virii spirits are nearby. They try to spawn near places with both living virii and the spirits of dead virii.
The egg's function is like the incubator; a living virus transports a virus spirit to the egg, and the spirit is put inside for a matter of time (30sec). After this period, the egg hatches, and out comes 4 (four) new virii, even though only one spirit was incapsulated in the egg. Now that's a spreading virus!
But what can you use this information for? Isn't it just another enemy unit that needs to be taken out as soon as possible? Not necesarily;
Take the Northwestern island as an example (assuming we start the demo by facing north). 2 spiders, and about 50 (correct me on this) virii.
With this trick you can get hundreds and hundreds of darwinians. But remember, the respawned virii spirits do not count towards your research pool. So it's still impossible to research anything above v.3 in the demo.
First, capture the incubator, and as soon as your first darwinian is born, promote him to officer, and have him order all others to go to a point right next to him. This way, they'll keep going to that point since the officer is still in range when they arrive.
After that,´transport a squad there using the radar (make sure you've been researching darwinians to v.3, they MUST have lasers. After that, start researching officer to v.3), and before they're 'rematerialized', you spawn an engineer and start capturing the control center for the second radar ASAP. The squad's function is to protect the engineer until it has captured the radar. When it does, terminate both the squad and the engineer program, and observe.
If done correctly, you should've killed about 10 virii by now. The spiders should be around the place the spirits from the dead virii is. As soon as a spider lays eggs, nearby living virii should start transporting the spirits into the eggs, and when a spirit has been incapsulated for said amount of time, the egg hatches, and 4 virii spawn.
Now what I usually do is spawn a squad, kill about 5-10 more virii, then terminate the squad program. The same thing happens again, one spirit equals 4 virii. Be careful not to do this too many times yet though. Now you'd want to spawn another squad, order them to the portal control center, spawn an engineer there, and use the squad to defend as the engineer captures the control center. When captured, terminate both programs, and observe yet again.
Now comes the fun part; making huge amounts of virii spawn, and actually being able to use this trick for a practical purpose (darwinians :).
Spawn another squad, and start taking out about 10 virii in each of the two 'sections' of the small island. The spider should lay a lot of eggs, which is soon going to hatch.
When there's about 150-200 virii (it's hard to make a guess really, but when it gets hard to keep your squad alive), terminate your squad and spawn a single engineer.
Guide the engineer as close as possible to the virii without it getting destroyed, and manoeuvre south, towards the incubator near the starting point. Aim for a point behind the darwinians that should be 'looping' there. The darwinians should now start shooting the virii (very effectively). After that, have the engineer return the spirits to the incubator.
You should be able to do this about 5-10 times before the island looks pretty thin (virus-wise). Now, spawn a squad, and kill a few virii. Make sure you DO NOT kill all virii on the island, or else there will be no way the spirits can be incapsuled in the eggs.
You can do this over and over, first use a squad to kill a few virii, then wait for the spiders to lay eggs, the virii to incapsule spirits in the eggs, and when the eggs hatch, spawn another squad to be able to 'fertilize' more eggs.
Then use the engineers as 'follow-me'ers for the virii to go right into your darwinian ambush, conveniently located very near the incubator.
You might need to progress a bit further before officer has been researched to v.3, but when it does, you've got a crap-load of a blaster-darwinian army (Especially if you can keep doing the above trick while progressing to get officer v.3 :)
When officer has reached v.3, find your darwinian army (they ARE looping, right?), and promote a darwinian to officer. Now right-click him till his flag shows 'follow mode' (4 arrows pointing at the middle of the flag). When you make him walk somewhere, the army will follow him. Now you have a near-invincible army, and it's not even counting as a task! Just remember to bring a squad to take out virii that needs to be hit by explosives, like spiders.
