Guide Subject: Enemies

Virii
These small arrows are one of the easier enemies in darwinia to kill. Once every second, they randomly change to one of eight possible directions, though if there are units or spirits and eggs nearby, they're able to travel in that direction.
To kill virii, you can either fire lasers from darwinians v.3 and above, or a squad. Alternatively (works best with huge amounts of virii), you can use explosives like grenades, rockets or airstrikes.
Virii can both kill squads, engineers, officers and regular darwinians.

Centipedes
A centipede is a giant worm (compared to other units), consisting of a number of blocks (usually about 16 to 20) linked together. If you destroy any part that isn't the last (thereby splitting the centipede in two), the first link of the last part will form a head, and the centipede is now actually two smaller centipedes.
To kill a centipede, I'd advise you to use either grenades or rockets, but they 'can' be destroyed by laser from darwinians or squads as well.
Centipedes can only kill squads, officers and darwinians; engineers are safe.

Jellyfish
Jellyfish are giant, well, jellyfish that float around in the air. They occasionally descend to lay eggs to be fertilized.
To kill a jellyfish, you have to use explosives like grenades, rockets or airstrikes when the jellyfish is near the ground, laying eggs.
Apart from laying eggs, they are no threat to any of your units. However, darwinians tend to focus laser fire on jellyfish even though they can only be destroyed with explosives.

Spiders
Spiders lay eggs just like jellyfish. But spiders are harder to kill, and far more dangerous. In my opinion the hardest enemy in the demo.
To kill a spider, first walk around till it has jumped at your squad (not ON it), and start firing grenades/rockets at the spot where it should now be turning around itself. With a bit of luck, it will be destroyed.
Spiders are only harmful when they land on your units, but they can destroy squads as well as darwinians. Again, engineers are safe.

Spirits
When you kill virii, spiders, centipedes, jellyfish or the likes, they'll leave their spirit floating. You can then order an engineer to collect the spirits, and take them to an incubator, where they'll be reborn as darwinians.
Virii can incapsule spirits in eggs laid by spiders or jellyfish, which then hatch into 4 new virii.
Spirits aren't harmful at all, but since they ascend after a while, be sure to make an engineer collect them before they do.

Eggs
Eggs are laid by spiders and jellyfish. Virii can then incapsulate a spirit inside an egg, and after about 30 seconds, the egg will hatch, and 4 virii will come out.
They can be shot by lasers and explosions, and are of course not harmful to any of your units until they hatch.
I've done some research on eggs.

Triffid Eggs
Although not initially in the demo level, they are possible to spawn by modifying the game files a bit.
These eggs hatch after 15 seconds, and about 10 virii come out of each.
To kill a triffid egg, you have to use explosives, as lasers don't harm it at all.
None of your units can be destroyed by the eggs themselves, but watch out for when they hatch!
