We got darwinia.tk back!
I know it's been ages since I posted any news, or did anything at all for Darwinia... Well, I'm back, for the time being. Been working a bit on a website for Defcon, but nothing public yet.
22:51 Thursday, 10th of February 2005
My custom map is finished: [Colonization]... yay!
Anyway, go check it out if you wish, I took a while doing it in notepad, so I'd appreciate both positive, negative and constructive critique.
AND on a site note, this'll probably be the last news post for about a week or so; I'm going to holiday (yay for snowboarding :), so... Have a nice vacation :D
21:09 Tuesday, 8th of February 2005
I uploaded 6 more [screenshots] from my custom map 'colonization'. Also reuploaded the 9th screenie from a discombobulated demo.
Gaspar asked me earlier how I did the custom map; well, at first I was going to develop a small map editor, but I figured I'd better wait and see if IV releases one... If they don't you can be sure I'll make one :P
Anyway, I just edited the 'mine_map.txt' and 'mission_mine_demo.txt' with plain, old notepad, that's all... Now get busy making your own custom maps! (Just kidding, either IV or I will release a map editor... I just need info whether or not they'll make it... Any help here?)

I've been working a bit on a custom level the past few days, and I believe it's time for some screenshots from what I've made so far. Keep in mind it isn't at all finished yet, the temporary TrackLinks are only there as a stand-in for the more complex layout I have in mind.
Anyways, you can check a few (four to be exact) [screenshots] from the 'new' map... I'll try to release it sometime tomorrow, but I probably won't get to it till wednesday... Until then, enjoy the screens (and of course the freshly updated discombobulator :)
EDIT: I got TONS more screens to show you... but my (**edited out**) webhost won't allow more than 5 mb... Better get a better one, right? Well, anyone got any better, free, non-ad webhosts? :P

Yay! The new demo, 1.1, is out, get it at the [Official Site].
To be honest I'm not quite sure if the discombobulator is combatible with version 1.1 of the demo... But I'll find out later today, as right now the only way I can update this site is through remote controlling of a friend's computer... Anyway, enjoy the new demo :)
EDIT: Yeah, version 1.0.0.5 of the discombobulator works fairly well with the 1.1 demo, except for 'enemy scheme'. I fixed that though, and you can now download version 1.0.0.6 of the [Discombobulator]. It's combatible with both the 1.0 and 1.1 demo!

It was my birthday yesterday, that's why I didn't release the revised discombobulator as promised. But I did now, get version 1.0.0.5 in the [Discombobulator] section.

I fixed the 'infamous' "can't find location: mine" bug in the [Discombobulator]. It turned out to be a misspecified file path (I'd forgotten to change from absolute to relative when compiling), cleverly discovered by Akseli, my friend abroad :).
Also changed the '1200 x 1024' resolution to the obvious '1280 x 1024'.
08:20 Friday, 4th of February 2005
Some people have been getting a "Can't find location: mine" error when using the [Discombobulator]. I've come up with a temporary solution; download a non-modified [main.dat] file, and overwrite your existing file with this, then try rerunning the discombobulator.
EDIT: If all else fails, try removing every single file and folder in the 'darwiniademo' directory EXCEPT 'sounds.dat' and 'darwinia.exe'. Then download the 'main.dat' file above to the 'darwiniademo'. Else try [Contact] me :)

I finished coding the [Discombobulator]. It now features complete preferences GUI AND most importantly, enemy difficulty (scheme) settings. I also improved the error handling code, and now you don't have to keep the archive around if you screw up your files :)
I'll get it uploaded as soon as I've finished rewriting the readme.txt file
Oh, I also added 4 new 'discombobulated' [screenshots], you should check them out. They show some of the results achievable with the enemy scheme settings.
EDIT: I've uploaded the discombobulator, version 1.0 :D

Screw it! My web host apparently doesn't like PHP anymore, so all subsites look like CRAP because of the non-working header.php and footer.php.
When my host gets down from their 'oh-I-am-so-great-I-do-not-need-PHP'-trip, the subsites should work normally again... Until then, you have to live with white backgrounds, Times New Roman, and blue/purple links... Eep!
EDIT: Site is back to normal again (if it ever were :)
09:06 Monday, 31st of January 2005
I kinda 'abandoned' the map editor, partly because of lack of interest (from you :), partly because of lack of need, and partly because I realized IV will probably make an editor when the full game is released.
If they don't, I might start coding one, but for now, all I'm working on is a difficulty selector/preferences interface for the [discombobulator].
21:20 Sunday, 30th of January 2005
Yeah I have to be honest; haven't worked at all on the map editor this weekend; I prioritized my friends higher ;)! I will get around to it when I'm alone though...
03:06 Saturday, 29th of January 2005
I've chosen to finally upload the [Darwinia Loader]. While I was at it, I also updated and uploaded a new version of the [discombobulator], it now works with language files!
AND it doesn't seem I'll have much time for coding the map editor this weekend; Sleeping over at a friend's place tonight, going to a concert on sunday... perhaps tomorrow night, if I feel restless (like I've done for the past 3 weeks or so).
13:57 Friday, 28th of January 2005
I've released the source for the [Discombobulator], and slightly started coding a map editor. I might need someone to run this site as a co-owner, since I don't really have much time to write any info/guides etc.
Also I've gotten moral support from a few people; Akseli, Gaspar and MrD. Thanks a lot!
On a side note, I (probably) won't be able to update much over the weekend, as I don't have an internet connection at home. But with any luck, I might even run a small beta test of the map editor on monday (Though I really doubt I can make it so fast :)
12:28 Thursday, 27th of January 2005
I finally got a release candidate for an application: [Darwinia Demo Discombobulator]. The current version is 0.95 BETA. I'm also trying to get a few screenshots uploaded, both from the 'ordinary' demo, and from a modified version.
BETA TESTERS NEEDED
I need a few BETA-testers, both for the Darwinia [Loader], [Demo Discombobulator], and possibly a map editor (yup :).
Other types of help would be appreciated as well; be it graphical, code-wise, website administration, or just moral support!
18:14 Tuesday, 25th of January 2005
EDIT: I noticed the .tk redirection is slow at times. If this is the case, you can use the non-redirected site: [http://zanzer7.1go.dk].
Somewhat big update; [enemy guide] added, plus I wrote a [Darwinia Loader].
Also added [contact] subsite, and I'm working on a 'Fiddler' for the demo. Though I want permission from Introversion first, so I won't post much about modifying till I hear from IV
I'd also appreciate if anyone wanted to help out with the site, considering that I'm at college... and that's really the only time I have internet access. See the [Contact] subsite for contact information.
00:31 Tuesday, 25th of January 2005
This site is optimized for [Mozilla Firefox] and Internet Explorer.
I'm updating the site at the minute, so you might just be unlucky and surf here as I'm in the middle of an update. If you see any problems/changing pages, check back in 10 minutes or so.
Also, I'm working on updating the [egg] document.
16:51 Monday, 24th of January 2005
The site is up, should be available at [1go], [web50], [hamed], and hopefully [frac] soon.
I'll probably be using web50 to host the demo, 1go as the main site, and frac as a mirror (just in case :), but I'll look into that now.
I also did some research on the eggs the spiders and jellyfish lay out. It's under [Documents].
21:06 Sunday, 23rd of January 2005
Initial release of this site... well not really, but initial CODING at least ;)
I made this site entirely with notepad, microsoft paint (for backdrop, image cropping), and using print screen/'P' key in my own copy of the Darwinia Demo (Win32 1.0).
Since I'm not a beta tester, I can't give you any info there... But as I've recently gotten way too much time on my hands (no more girlfriend, no more internet), I've been 'exploring' the darwinia demo a bit, and have come up with some interesting results/theories. I'll try to update the site as often as possible, but I can only access the internet at college, so it won't be THAT often.
Darwinia is my main spare-time-activite now though, so I might just find out a thing or two...
